The stilts by Teatochan The stilts by Teatochan
These lovely things (or a modified version) are what I walk around in every halloween! I had lots of fun making them and am sorry I don't have a final pic yet. These were the 4th version I think, but the basic shape is unchanged. Most changes have come to the foot pad where they touch the ground. In these I could not stand still at all, but the new ones allow me much more freedom to stop and pose for pics or to chat with fellow costumers!!

If you ever formulate a good way to make these for the general public I would love to buy and dress up a pair! Metal is better than wood anytime!

Ill eventually be working on my own pair of stilts similar to these if I get the chance. Lately funds have been difficult to come by.

I would love a pair of these. I can think of a million ways to use them. They remind me of the game Portal.

Wow, how much would those cost retail?

How long did they take to build?

Well, I don't know about the retail cost... they take me over a month to build a single set if I am doing it here at home. Look this year for something called digi legs, or Weta legs... you may be in luck to buy a set.

Would it be exclusive to the US or possibly to europe too? (hopefully at not too hefty a price)

Not sure. I know that they should be released for order this year. So far that is all the information I have been privy to so far. I sure hope that anyone who wants them can get 'em. They are way to much fun not to share!

deat teatochan, your stilts are awesome!!!!
i have one question though, where did you get those things that you held the leg straps on with on the inside of the leg? (the t shaped things that the strap goes through) and what are they called? the only thing i have found like them were suspender buckles and they were $3 for 2, meaning i would have to pay $30 for enough of them. thanks for the help!!!!!

We bought them in a leather supply store. I am not sure what they were called, we just saw them and bought them because they looked like what we needed.

Great to hear!! We modified that part too. Now they are built right into the bit that goes over the calf and thigh.

awesome! cool idea! I love how they look like animal or anthro legs

Just wondering, isn't it awkward to have your toes always pointed down like that and the straps going so high up your leg? The stilts I walk have straps only up to the bottom or the knee....

Being belted in up to the thighs allows me to get some serious movement in the ankle (or hock) All of my weight is really supported on the upper part of my thighs. We have found that the straps across the front of the shin are very important for stopping toe pain though since the foot wants to shift forward from that weight on the thigh.

That's really cool....
My stilts only go up to my knees but they're the tradition peg kind, so the shin strap is mostly to help for "accuracy" and to make it less wobbly. These are really nice though... it's an great idea!

These are really amazing, though I can see how it would be hard to balance. I'll have to try making a pair of these sometime; I've always wanted to. :) Awesome work!

Go for it! They are very rewarding to walk around in. It is a powerful workout too! Mine happen to weigh around 10 to 20 lbs each, depending on the hardware I strap on over them.

not hard to ballance on, but it sure is a heck of a workout for the legs! Actually, standing is more tiring than walking. The first year I wore a set of these, I walked for 7-8 hours

Beautiful design!
I absolutely love the look of the overall leg/knee supports!
Out of curiosity.... would you be up for a commission in making another set of these?

To be honest, they would cost over a grand with most of that being materials and the rest time because of how most of the pieces have to be hand made. They just might be on the market next year though... ^^

I took a whack at posting some closeups, but I am not sure how easy they will be to make. I know it takes me around a month to make a set. (I make new sets sometimes, but not very often) they are constantly being upgraded when our group finds a way to make them more comfortable or easier to put on/take off.

Cool design i use a slightly modded poweriser in a lot of our costumes but would love to be able to have a more authentic looking leg where the foot angles down instead of stright. finding the centre of gravity on stilts can be a pain but with lots of practice and some good crash matts you can learn to stand still in almost anything i have found or tiny little shifts of weight rather than steps.

if you do go into production with these i would be very interested although with the price o materials and labour plus overseas shipping i dont know if i would be able to afford them. look forward to seeing any updates you make in future.

yeah, these take about 10 minutes to get comfortable in the first time you get up, but after that it's easy.

wow, nice one !
so in these u can actually stand still, but what about running, i mean, in nature such shape of legs is faster and more 'jumpy' if u know what i mean...

lol, yeah, if I was young and spry I could jump around in a set of modified legs (my friends Pasha and Jasmine made a set with really huge mucking springs for just that) but running is not advisable because if you trip, wow are you going to hurt. (we tried it... it hurt)
